Essential Oils For Sickness!

By now you should know how much I love and use essential oils. Before I start off this blog post I want to make it very clear that I do believe essential oils work! They are derived from plants, flowers and herbs around the world, they are sourced organically and are such a beautiful, gentle and natural alternative on the body in comparison to western medicine. In saying that, I am not completely against western medicine but I like to use my oils + other natural alternatives daily to aid my body in preventing future illness. If you get to the point where you are extremely sick, you need to seek medical advice. I am writing this blog post to share how I use different oils each day to build my immune system, protect my body from sickness and my go to oils for when I do get sick.

Oregano!

I am under the impression that this oil does not get the credit it deserves. Most people use oregano for cooking use but what they don’t know is how many amazing properties this oil holds to benefit our health and wellbeing. Oregano contains carcavol, this little wonder ingredient helps to fight off bacteria, fungi and yeast in our bodies. In turn because of this property, it’s known to be a natural antibiotic.

Read this post from dr axe about extensive studies on oregano oil.

Oregano oil is a super hot oil. You need to use this with a carrier oil. period.

I usually take oregano oil in a veggie capsule when I feel like I am coming down with something and when I am actually sick.

Note: It should not be taken for more than 10 days at a time

Onguard!

The onguard blend is a part of DoTERRA’S range. It is known as the protective blend! It is made up of oils like cinnamon leaf, cinnamon bark, clove bud, wild orange, eucalyptus and rosemary. Each of these oils have amazing benefits for our bodies immunity individually, and together, they are a powder house. This oil can be taken internally and used topically when diluted with a carrier oil.

I use on guard daily. I will take it in a veggie capsule as well as in my own blend I make. If you are in the oil community you will probably know what this is – FLOOM.

  1. Frankincense.

  2. Lemon.

  3. OnGuard.

  4. Oregano.

  5. Melaluka (Tea tree).

I add 5 drops of each oil into a 10ml roller bottle and top the rest with Fractionated coconut oil. I roll this blend on the bottom of my feet daily. This helps keep my immune system up when bad bacteria is flying around. The reason I put it on my feet is because the soles of our feet don’t contain sebaceous glands. These glands act as a barrier. The soles of our feet also have really large pores, this ensures the oil is going to be absorbed quicker than any other part on the body unless taken internally.

Lemon!

Most people know that drinking lemon water in the morning is amazing for your digestion but it goes way beyond that. Lemons are extremely acidic but as soon as the lemon is metabolised it becomes alkaline. This means we are able to fight off nasty bacteria and prevent sickness from entering our bodies.

I take lemon in a veggie capsule as well as in my floom blend as stated above.

Eucalyptus!

Not only does this oil smell like home, it has so many beautiful benefits. Eucalyptus has anti-inflammatory properties and is an expectorant. This means it is amazing for helping your body cleanse out toxins. I always rub a few drops across my chest and under my nose because it is amazing for respiratory circulation.

Peppermint!

I can hand on heart say this is one of my all time favourite oils to use. Peppermint is SO ridiculously versatile and benefits our bodies in so many ways.

I use peppermint oil when my stomach is unsettled, nauseated or just not feeling right. I put a drop of peppermint oil on the palm of my hand, press my thumb into the oil, then press my thumb onto the roof of my mouth and let it work its magic. I also use the same method if I am car sick. Along with that, I put a few drops behind my ears.

I very rarely take panadol when I have a head ache or any head tension anymore. Instead, I rub a few drops of peppermint oil into my temples (being mindful of not getting it in or around my eyes because it burns). I sit for about 15 minutes and every single time without fail, after I do, my head ache is gone. I swear by it.

I hope you found this blog post informative and it inspires you to use natural alternatives where possible. As stated above, if you are super sick, suffering with chronic illness or disease, you need to seek medical advice. These are just a few ways I try to keep my immune system up and methods I personally use when I am sick.
