Healthy Morning Routine.

If you know me, you know I’m pretty go with the flow and honestly a bit of a free spirit. Although I consider myself care-free, I LOVE and swear by my morning routine. I notice a huge difference spiritually, mentally and physically throughout my day if I don’t give myself time to do things that help me set my day up right.

Not only does a morning routine allow you to set super healthy habits in your day to day life, it also helps with productivity. I am currently unemployed because I am waiting for my green card! So, I am taking full advantage of having a morning routine that spans out for hours. I’m aware that this is going to change in the next few months and I want to preface that you don’t need hours and hours to create a healthy morning routine, this is just what I do currently and I absolutely loooove it.

With all of that said, let’s jump into my healthy morning routine!


TEMP


The very first thing I do when I wake up is check my temperature with a basal thermometer. This helps me to track my cycle and is my preferred form of contraception currently. JESUS TIME

I am a lover of Jesus and I have chosen to make it a non-negotiable priority to start my day with Him. He is honestly everything to me and it blows my mind with the things I learn in this sacred time with him each day. Spending regular time with my Heavenly Father grounds me and aligns my heart with His. The more I pray to be like Him, the more He convicts + teaches me new truths that propel me deeper into His love. More of Him, less of me. I have just recently gone through this INCREDIBLE devotion by Brittney moses on anxiety through the bible app. She gives amazing practical steps you can be taking if you suffer from anxious thoughts and leaves you with the truth of God’s word. GRATITUDE


This year I have made a conscious effort to start a gratitude journal. I am generally a pretty happy and thankful person but let me tell you, there is something truly wild and wonderful about writing down what you are genuinely grateful for each day. The act of sitting, pondering and writing your blessings on paper will blow your mind with the amount you are given daily. It can be as simple as having clean water or as big as receiving a new job. The good always, always, always outweighs the bad, so I encourage you to start practicing gratitude daily and watch how much your perspective changes on things.


MOVEMENT

I freaking love moving my body and I do multiple forms of exercise a day because right now thats what feels best for me. I will always start my day out with a 45-60 minute walk. This is a great form of cardio! I know so many people think cardio is boring but I genuinely enjoy it. Mixed in with HIIT, strength and yoga, it makes me feel golden. I’m embracing all the vitamin D and it helps to set a good mindset for everything else I plan to achieve in the day. I usually listen to a podcast or music. I will list a few of my favorite podcasts below for you. It’s mainly health, fitness and wellness related.

I normally do a 14 to 16 hour fast each day. This is something that works really well for my body and my digestion. I can do a post on my experience with fasting and the benefits I have personally noticed from it if that is something you would be interested in.  My first meal of the day is my absolute f a v o u r i t e meal because it’s a smoothie bowl. I’ve slowly transitioned away from sugar/carb heavy fruits in the morning. I was finding it wasn’t working well with my body and it was holding me back from achieving my personal fitness related goals. I’ve worked super hard to be completely intentional about the ingredients I use when I make my morning smoothie (and any meal I cook for that matter). I’m ridiculously passionate about food + nutrition and I whole heartedly believe we should be able to receive our all our nutrients from our diet. Creating new recipes is something that brings my heat joy like you wouldn’t believe, so let me walk you through my green goodness smoothie bowl.


Ingredients:


Smoothie Bowl


  • 1 cup of frozen cauliflower

  • 1 cup of baby spinach

  • 1 scoop of grass fed beef chocolate protein powder

  • 1/4 of an avo

  • 1 teaspoon of chia seeds

  • Depending on what phase of my cycle I am at i’ll add a teaspoon of flax seed too

  • A good sprinkle of Cinnamon

  • 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk


Toppings:


  • 2 teaspoons of almond butter (this is my new guilty pleasure and I’m not even mad about it

  • Cacao nibs. This is an absolute must, they add such an amazing flavour + texture to the bowl

  • Depending on what phase of my cycle I am on I will add either 1 teaspoon of sunflower seeds or 1 teaspoon of pepitas


As I said above, I am super intentional with the ingredients I choose. In my meals I make sure I have a good source of protein, fats, greens and fiber. This smoothie bowl ticks off all of those plus more. This meal leaves me feeling satiated and full until my next meal in the afternoon. I always take time to be thankful for the opportunity to nourish my body with foods that make me feel good and that I have access to healthy options. It’s something I never, ever take for granted and I truly do consider it the biggest blessing.


* Side note: This smoothie is not sweet and might take a little while to get used to. I’ve personally trained my tastebuds to eat this and enjoy it as a sweeter meal each day. If frozen bananas work well for you, you can always sub them instead of the cauliflower.


STUDY

As I stated above, a morning routine can really help in encouraging you to be more productive in your daily practices. For me this reigns true, 100%. In July I started studying herbalism. It’s an online course that I can chip away at when I please. In saying that, I do have a time frame to complete my units + modules in and I’m really determined to beat that deadline and advance my studies as much as possible. I find studying in the morning works best for me and my brain. I’m able to take my time with my lessons and really absorb the information that is being taught to me.

Doing all these tasks will usually bring me to around 12-1 pm. My morning routine has honestly been a life saver during this time of unemployment. Keeping busy and having things to work on is super important to me.


Doing these daily practices also set my afternoon up for a time of creativity, yoga, working out, cleaning, hanging with friends or family before Gideon and I start our night routine.

I encourage you to find what works best for you and get into that groove. It’s going to do your mental health so much good and bring you the most out of your day.
